“Just take the picture and let us have some cake.”

I hate August. Full disclosure, I was born in August. And August punishes me for being born in August by being August. It’s hot. It’s humid. And at least five times, our A/C has gone out ON my birthday. In August. When its hot and humid. Since I usually whine my way through the month, one of my daughter’s sent me this video link as a reminder that I will survive August. And to quit whining (cause she has a birthday in August, too and she doesn’t go all bat crap crazy about it.) And yes, that is my sixth birthday party. Don’t ask.

Now that we all feel more appreciative, or are at least pretending to, how about some link love.

Because I mentioned the dreaded b-word, how about a party link to get the link love started. And this isn’t just any party link. It’s really classy. Expensive. Has a kind of French name. 🙂

And then I thought some August links would be appropro:

Wikipedia on August (Apparently it was named after Augustus. Me, I’d be bitter about that.)

If I was in New Orleans, I’d eat here, cause it would make August better AND be a metaphor. Maybe. And cause John Besh is cute.

And no links about August would be complete without a definition. Can you believe they use words like “supreme dignity” for such a bitter, hot month? Neither can I.

So that’s it for this week. Hopefully we’ll all be more cheerful for the rest of this gnarly, nasty month. Of course, at the end I’ll be a year older. That didn’t use to bother me, but I’m starting to run out of a future. I can only hope I’ll at least have A/C for my “big” day.

So, do you have birthday horror stories? Love getting a year older? Really? Okay, I didn’t use to mind, though it’s not the aging part, it’s the trash kicking part, I hate. But enough about me. Tell me your favorite birthday stories or other August horror/happy stories and because I love comments, I’ll enter you in my monthly comment love drawing for a $10 gift card of wonderfulness from AnaBanana Bath & Body Treats. Winners are announced in the first Monday blog post of the new month, but leave an email addy, too, just in case.

You just made my own miserable August (hate this month, too) so much better. Loved the Louie CK clip. Happy happy birthday, Pauline!

I am glad the video helped! I swear, I’d like to be unconscious for August. LOL! Thanks! This year I’m trying to look my birthday in the eye, instead of cowering before it. I’ll let you know if it worked. LOL!

Oh, Pauline! Happy birthday month to you. That video was hilarious–scary that I think like him sometimes. I had no idea! Eek.

I have a summer birthday, too. As do all three of my siblings. In fact, all four of us were born within a three-week time period (over 8 years). AND, my younger sister’s birthday is the day after mine. There were very few birthday celebrations that were just mine and just hers. No fun.

Happy summer birthday to you, too! I don’t know what our mom’s were thinking, being pregnant when it is so hot! Okay, I did it once, but wow FOUR times!!!! Don’t you just love that video. When my whining gets too loud, I go listen to it. LOL!

I’m an August birthday, too, but early in the month. I hated it. We were always at a family reunion on my birthday so no homemade cake and I had to share my party with at least three aunts. The one year I was home for my birthday and homemade cake, I had my tonsils out two days before. By the time I felt well enough to eat cake, it was long gone. (I have 8 siblings). And then there was the dreaded grade school Birthday Cupcake. All the June/July birthdays go theirs in May. School started in late August. Anyone who had a birthday after school started got a cupcake. Those of us unfortunate enough to be born in early August were ignored in May and forgotten in September. No cupcake, ever. Sad days, especially since our grade school lunch lady was a little German woman who made food FROM SCRATCH. I still dream about her split pea soup.

So I overcompensate for my birthday now. Since my husband is completely incompetent at gift shopping, I buy myself whatever I want for my birthday. This year I didn’t say anything at all, waiting to see if any of my kids would notice. One did by noon. The rest didn’t even realize it was my birthday. No cake this year, though, because I’m getting a brand spanking new kitchen for my birthday! It cost more than the car I bought myself last year.

Yeah, I can whine with the best of them. Happy birthday, Pauline.
(I’m laughing while listening to the contractor swear about shocking himself over and over on the same outlet circuit. He’s very creative about cussing without using any actual swear words.)

I tend to buy my own gifts, too, though I also try to hide from my birthday, since it tends to smite me. Bad. LOL! Happy birthday, Jaleta!! Thanks for stopping by the blog!
