Let me count the ways…

Back in August 2009, I was bored. I was miserable. I felt that, as an individual I’d ceased to exist, other than being a mother and a wife. I had no idea who or what else I was or could be. I’d really lost myself.

And at the time I also had a short story about a man in a dungeon which came from a dream, and damn it but I wanted to know what happened next. Who was he? What was he? Why was he there? Why had I even dreamt him in the first place and woken with the image so vivid that I even knew his name? Keir. Old Irish for little dark one.

So I sat at my computer, short unfinished story in hand, and I got writing. After nearly 20 years without writing much of anything, the words poured out of me. My husband thought I’d gone insane. It felt crazy. It felt wonderful. It felt like the hardest thing I’d ever done, and yet I couldn’t stop.

Six weeks of manic typing and scribbling and research left me with a 40K first draft. Out of that, I split it into two separate stories and worked at the first for two more months. I finished with a 110K time travel SciFi romance named after its central character – Keir. Two years later, Keir became my publishing debut, only to come down eighteen months later when my publisher was bought out by another. Over a year later, on what would have been its third book birthday (and my third anniversary as a published author), Keir is back…and more books in the series are coming!

Keir came from my lifelong love of all things SciFi, but especially Doctor Who. It came from a lifelong love of words too, of books and films that filled my head with ideas of other worlds. At its heart Keir is story of hope and redemption, in part because it was the thing that saved my sanity and reminded me what I loved doing most in life – crafting stories. And I’m so proud to be releasing Keir again, and to finally be bringing out more books in the series and set in the same universe, to share with the world.

About Keir:

A demon waiting to die…

An outcast reviled for his discolored skin and rumors of black magic, Keirlan de Corizi sees no hope for redemption. Imprisoned beneath the palace that was once his home, the legendary ‘Blue Demon of Adalucien’ waits for death to finally free him of his curse. But salvation comes in an unexpected guise.

A woman determined to save him.

Able to cross space and time with a wave of her hand, Tarquin Secker has spent eternity on a hopeless quest. Drawn by a compulsion she can’t explain, she risks her apparent immortality to save Keir, and offers him sanctuary on her home-world, Lyagnius. But Quin has secrets of her own.

When Keir mistakenly unleashes the dormant alien powers within him and earns exile from Lyagnius, Quin chooses to stand by him. Can he master his newfound abilities in time to save Quin from the darkness that seeks to possess her?

Book One of the Redemption series and part of the Travellers Universe. A science fiction romance novel previously released by Lyrical Press Inc. 7th May 2012, Keir is a Readers Favorite Contest Awards Finalist 2012, HOD RWA Aspen Gold finalist (3rd place), The Kindle Book Review’s 2013 Best Indie Book Awards semi-finalist, and a 2012 SFR Galaxy Award Best May to December Romance winner.

About Pippa:

After spending twelve years working as an Analytical Chemist in a Metals and Minerals laboratory, Pippa Jay is now a stay-at-home mum who writes scifi and the supernatural. Somewhere along the way a touch of romance crept into her work and refused to leave. In between torturing her plethora of characters, she spends the odd free moment playing guitar very badly, punishing herself with freestyle street dance, and studying the Dark Side of the Force. Although happily settled in the historical town of Colchester in the UK with her husband of 21 years and three little monsters, she continues to roam the rest of the Universe in her head.

Pippa Jay is a dedicated member of the Science Fiction Romance Brigade and Broad Universe, blogging at Spacefreighters Lounge, Adventures in Scifi, and Romancing the Genres. Her works include YA and adult stories crossing a multitude of subgenres from scifi to the paranormal, often with romance, and she’s one of eight authors included in a science fiction romance anthology—Tales from the SFR Brigade. She’s also a double SFR Galaxy Award winner, been a finalist in the Heart of Denver RWA Aspen Gold Contest (3rd place), the EPIC eBook awards, and the GCC RWA Silken Sands Star Awards (2nd place).

I thought, given the quality of your writing, that you had been writing all your life. I’m astounded at how good you write in such a short time. You clearly were born to do this!

Aww, thanks Liza. I wrote a lot as a teen but took a long break before Keir. It was so good to get back to it!
