Why did I write Daring To Love? Because I had no choice. Once a story starts to breathe, I have to write.
Daring To Love began several years ago when I was daydreaming. Wishing I was in Lincoln City, Oregon, walking on my favorite beach, I imagined a woman throwing her cell phone into the ocean.
Within minutes I’d opened a new word document and was writing the opening scene of Daring to Love. I wrote madly for days, as I learned about Liz and Galen, explored their past, discovered why she didn’t trust him, and what the future would bring.
But the story stalled at about two-thirds of the way through. Trying to take them in a direction I thought they should go backfired on me. Strong women are not easy to manipulate, and the words stopped flowing onto the page so I put the manuscript away and worked on a different project.
Liz and Galen sat in my computer, untouched while I wrote Do Not Tell Me No, and published it. Next, I polished an earlier award winning work, Touch Me and sent it out into the world.
Then I read Daring Greatly, by Brene Brown, and a light bulb went on. I picked up Liz and Galen’s story, read what I’d already written, put my hands on the keys, and the rest of the story fell into place.
Once I recognized their individual vulnerabilities, the characters came to life. This time, I let them lead me and was thrilled at the twists and turns of their story.
About Kathryn Jane:
Award winning author Kathryn loves writing about kickass women, the men who dare to love them. A former racehorse trainer, and emergency dispatcher, she now spends her days and nights creating wild and wonderful worlds filled with mystery, adventure, and humor.
Addicted to the ocean and the color turquoise, this author lives on the west coast of Canada with two obnoxious cats, a pathetically faithful dog, and the man of her dreams.
I’d like to thank Kathryn for stopping by today and sharing her story. I love hearing why an author wrote a particular book. What about you? And please, say hi to Kathryn! Comments are entered into my monthly drawing for an AnaBanana gift basket (($25 value) and a winner will be announced the first blog post of the new month. (Except when I forget or get hosed. Then I announce in a later blog post.)
“What a WONDERFUL experience! Each of the authors did a terrific and unique job of showing off their amazing talent for bringing us into a world through their words. Just AMAZING!” Amazon Reviewer
